When I paint, I become engrossed by the process and allow the paint, texture, color and surface speak for me. Planning is a part of the process but so is the necessity to detach myself from preconceived notions or visions of the finished work. I try to envelop the surface with the emotions I am feeling and intend for that energy to melt into the piece. What I try to express is selfish, honest, spiritual and personal. It has to do with the people in my life, my relationships with them and my own development and understanding of the world around me and myself.
Acrylics are my current medium of choice. They force me to work quickly and
instinctively and allow me add collage elements. The addition of collage is
representative of my connection to photography and graphic design as well
as the connection between the subconscious and reality.
