Producing work from life or photographs, I’m consistently intrigued by the interplay of light, color, texture, subject and self. My favorite light is sunlight. I enjoy drawing outside or having direct sunlight on the piece while I work. My hands are very involved in the process through smudging, smearing, smoothing, or shaving.
From ideation through construction, this cycle provokes a dialog in which
representational imagery serves as a line of communication between self and
subconscious. My intent is not to present a narrative but to allow a discourse
to unfold naturally during the creative process that will translate an idea
or group of ideas.
I’m inspired by myth, science, politics, the mundane, theology, language,
history, spirituality, and nature, to name a few. In a world full of distraction
and distortion, for me, art continues to be an authentic means of exchange.
